When to compare two PDFs
A revised contract arrives and the first job is finding what moved. "Only the figure changed" is not something to sign on trust, and reading twenty pages line by line against each other is not realistic either.
This matches the text of both files line by line and lists what appeared and what went. It can also hand back the newer file with the changes highlighted, so there is only one thing to read.
How to use it
- 1Put the older file on the left and the newer one on the right.
- 2Press Compare to get the list of changed lines.
- 3Highlighted lines are new; struck-through lines are gone.
- 4Download the newer file with the changes marked if you want it on paper.
Common questions
- Can it compare scanned contracts?
- No. A scan is a picture, so there is no text to match. Run text recognition over it first and it becomes comparable.
- How does a one-character edit appear?
- As that line removed and a new line added. Reading the pair side by side shows the difference at once.
- Do spacing changes count as edits?
- No. Whitespace is ignored, so reflowed paragraphs don't fill the list with differences that aren't there.
