When to remove a PDF watermark
Documents often arrive with a REVIEW COPY or SAMPLE stamp across them, and it gets in the way of reading. Sometimes the final version still carries a marking that should have gone.
This tool lifts off markings that sit on top of the page as stamps or annotations. Watermarks fused into the page content are a different matter.
How to use it
- 1Upload the PDF you want cleaned.
- 2Enter the password if the file is protected.
- 3Press "Remove watermark".
- 4You'll see how many elements were removed — open the file and check the result.
Common questions
- It says no removable watermark was found.
- That means the marking is already fused into the page's text and graphics rather than sitting on top as an annotation. This approach can't lift it. Getting an unmarked original is the reliable route.
- How does it decide what counts as a watermark?
- It looks for annotations of the Stamp or Watermark type, and for annotations whose name or contents mention words like watermark, confidential, draft, or sample.
- Could it remove annotations I wanted to keep?
- Only ones matching those rules, but an approval stamp added as an annotation could go with them. Always check the result — your original is untouched.
- Is it okay to remove a copyright marking?
- Only use this on documents you're entitled to modify. Stripping a marking that was a condition of distribution can cause real problems.
